Shenandoah Lodging & Tourism Alliance

Shenandoah Lodging & Tourism Alliance

In 2014 Warren County updated their ordinance covering short-term rental properties. This was prompted by concerns from some local residents who misguidedly fear that short-term tourist rental guests are less desirable than long-term rental occupants. Our Alliance was created with the aim to educate and correct this misconception. We’ve proven through our own operation that there is tremendous demand for this vacation style. We advocate for a holistic approach to enhancing the overall tourist experience. Going forward we hope to advocate for establishing standards of industry excellence among short-term rental property operations throughout the County and beyond.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation* reports that…

  • visitor expenditures in Warren County were up 2.3% (vs. 1.4% statewide) to $125 mil in 2013.
  • local tax receipts as a result of tourism were up 9.9% to $2.4 mil in 2013.
  • 18% of tourism revenue in Virginia comes from lodging.
